OU turns chaotic as cops, students clash
There was chaos at Osmania University on Thursday as pro-Telangana student activists clashed with police at six different entrances of the university campus. They were trying to take out a procession from the Arts College to the Secretariat, but were prevented by the police. The situation was tense on the campus even at night.
Hundreds of pro-Telangana students gathered outside the Arts College and tried to take out a rally as part of the ‘Chalo Secretariat’ call given by Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC). The students raised slogans for a separate Telangana state, and marched towards the NCC gate. Here they were stopped by the police.
For two hours, the protesters continued to raise slogans and demanded that they be allowed to proceed. Police placed barricades at all the entrances of the campus, confining them within the campus. The stone-pelting began at 1.05 pm at the NCC gate. An hour later they moved to the ladies hostel gate, and continued to hurl stones. Later, they marched towards the Manjeera ground gate and then towards the OU police station gate. The cops retaliated by lobbing tear gas shells to disperse the agitators. In the heavy stone pelting at NCC gate, a cameraman of ABN channel, Mr Teja, received head injuries.
