Over 5,000 traffic violations everyday
The twin cities have yielded a surprisingly high number of traffic violators. Over 5,000 cases are being booked daily. While a small army of traffic cops struggle to control the violations, blue collar workers (mostly youngsters between 20 and 30 years of age) are the prime offenders, indicate cops. Among the other offenses, the most serious one, of drunken driving, has youngsters as the biggest perpetrators.
In fact, these young blue collar workers mentioned earlier, account for a whopping 35.74 per cent of the total number of drunken driving violations.
These are closely followed by businessmen, who at 27.86 per cent, are the second largest group to be caught indulging in drunken revelry on city roads.
Apart from the blue collar workers, private employees and software professionals are the next largest category caught during the special drives conducted by the traffic police.
Out of the total 10,277 drunk drivers booked over the last one year, those who came into the ‘playing safe’ category were government employees, students and retired employees, all of whom had the least number of cases against them.
So, it all boils down to the fact that the young professionals have been the wildest on the roads and have caused the highest number of accidents between 9 pm to 11 pm.
