Parkal: BJP names surgeon as its candidate
BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy on Monday announced that P. Vijaya Chander Reddy would be the party candidate for the Assembly bypoll for the Parkal seat. BJP leaders had finalised the name of old warhorse C. Janga Reddy, a former MP who had defeated the late P.V. Narasimha Rao at a meeting held on Friday night. But the party leaders changed their mind on Monday and announced Telang-ana Doctors JAC Warangal Unit president Vijaya Chander Reddy’s name.
Dr Reddy, who was professor of Orthopa-edics at Kakatiya Medical College and president-elect of the Indian Medical Asso-ciation’s AP unit, was selected in view of his popularity, the party leaders said. Announcing the candidature, Mr Kishan Reddy said the BJP candidate’s victory in Parkal would be a step toward formation of the Telangana state. Criticising TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s frequent “confusing” statements, Mr Kishan Reddy said, “He announced on several occasions that T state will be a reality and even gave dates but he failed miserably to bring (to fruition) the state due to his autocratic and erratic behaviour.”
