Parties trash model code
Parties in the state are making a mockery of model code of conduct which is observed more in breach, in particular the highly sensitive matters relating to religion. Be it Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Vijayawada MP L. Rajagopal and PCC women wing chief Ganga Bhavani, TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao or YSRC spokesperson Ambati Rambabu, the leaders were freely referring to religious matters in their speeches and press briefings.
The EC till date did not take a decision on the complaint against the Chief Minister for his comments that the sanctity of Tirupati will be lost if people voted for parties other than Congress and CM’s reply. Similarly, the EC is yet to react to the reply given by KCR to the allegations that he called the BJP communal. In both the cases, CEO Bhanwar Lal, in his report to the EC, confirmed that the leaders raised religious matters in violation of the code. The latest addition to the breach of code on religious matters is the Vijayawada MP who dared Ms Y.S. Vijayalakshmi to take an oath on the Bible that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy did not commit any mistakes.
Taking a cue from him, the PCC Mahila chief also threw a similar challenge to YSRC leaders. Reacting to the challenge, Mr Rambabu sought to know whether AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and party leader Vayalar Ravi would take oath on the Bible and declare that there was no conspiracy in the helicopter crash in which former CM Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy died.
