Peace restored in Sangareddy
Sangareddy remained peaceful on Friday after Medak district authorities clamped a 48-hour curfew to rein in unruly mobs that went on a rampage, burning shops, vehicles and pelting stones on Thursday night following a derogatory communal post on Facebook.
Additional forces were rushed in on Thursday night itself from Sadasivapet, Jogipet and the AP Special Police and the situation was quickly brought under control.
However, Class X students writing their Board ex-ams were worst hit on Friday as they had to reach the exam centres on time.
Earlier, several people were injured while around 35 shops were damaged and four autos, two scooters and a DCM van were burnt.
Locals complained that the police was late in reacting. The incidents started at around 9.45 pm on Thursday and continued till the early hours on Friday. Sources said that the Old Bus Stand area was the most volatile. Acc-ording to preliminary estimates, Rs 1.26 crore worth of property was damaged.
The police booked seven cases including against one who allegedly posted the blasphemous picture. He was booked under Section 153A for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and section 295A for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
