Petrol dealers strike against VAT
AP petroleum dealers, fuel tanker operators, LPG transporters, distributors and the AP Lorry Owners’ Association have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from April 16 if the government does not roll back the proposed 12.5 per cent Vat on transport charges.
The affected parties complain that the tax has been imposed only in AP and that the commercial tax department has been pressurising them to pay the Vat since 2003. This, they complain, will entail dual taxation.
They maintain that they pay transport charges, which are included in the fuel price invoices paid by the oil companies to the state (33 per cent on diesel and 22.5 per cent on petrol and 4 per cent on gas).
