Petrol tankers’ stir called off
The Petroleum Tankers Operators Association has called-off its proposed strike on April 16, after its representatives met minister for civil supplies D. Sridhar Babu at the Secretariat on Saturday.
They were assured that the state government would withdraw the 12.5 per cent VAT on transportation charges within two months. “I will take up the issue of withdrawal of VAT with the chief minister immediately. The orders will be issued soon and will be implemented within two months,” he said. He urged the petrol tank operators to call off the strike, saying that any disruption in petroleum and LPG supplies would cause severe hardships to the common people. However, the association made it clear that it would be forced to go on a strike if the government failed to keep its promise on VAT within two months.
