Politicos back on the campaign trail
With the climax in campaigning for the byelections approaching and YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy under arrest, political parties are now hammering out finer details of the final phase of the campaigning from Wednesday.
Leading the party’s campaign with his son in jail, YSR Congress honorary president and Pulivendula MLA, Y.S. Vijayalakshmi, is set to take Wednesday morning’s flight to Visak-hapatnam to reach the Narasannapet constituency. She would be accompanied by her daughter Y.S. Sharmila Reddy.
Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu is, meanwhile, on the campaign trail, having completed the first round.
The ruling Congress has lined up star campaigners like Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, PCC chief Botsa Satyanara-yana, MP K. Chiranjeevi, Union ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Vayalar Ravi, among others.
They are scheduled to campaign in different constituencies separately, and together in some areas.
As reported earlier, the Congress would focus on segments such as Nellore Lok Sabha as well as Ongole, Tirupati, Allag-adda, Rayachoti, Narsap-uram and Ramachandrap-uram constituencies.
Mr Chiranjeevi, who took the party to victory in both Tirupati and Allagadda, has put his personal prestige at stake in these seats and would tour both the constituencies twice during his 10-day campaign, it is learnt.
While the Chief Mini-ster would start his campaign from Narsapuram on Thursday, AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad will cover Nellore, Tirupati, Ongole, Rayach-oti and Allagadda for three days starting June 3.
According to a senior Congress leader, the party has decided to expose all the 'misdeeds' of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy by quoting extensively from the chargesheets filed by the CBI during campaigning by different leaders.
"We will not spare even Ms Vijayalakshmi (Jagan Reddy's mother) during the campaign. We will tell the people that she has failed to control her son in crossing all limits (of alleged corruption)," the Congress leader said.
