Power cuts cause water problems
Unscheduled power cuts in addition to the scheduled three-hour cuts have led to a huge shortage of water in many areas of the city.
People in old city have especially complained of water problems due to the power cuts and many of them approached the electricity consumer grievance redressal cell for change of power cut timings.
Apart from that, a large number of complaints were registered for unscheduled cuts within an hour of the scheduled power cuts. Over 2,000 complaints were received by the grievances redressal cell over the last 10 days alone and a majority of them complained about odd timings of power cuts, frequent unscheduled cuts and inaction of the authorities to complaints.
“People are forced to carry water from the ground floor as there is no power when water is supplied by HMWS&SB. It has become a race for people living in flats to store water for daily use,” said V. Gyaneshwara, a resident of Pedamma Temple society.
Working professionals who are unable to store water when it is supplied, are unable to do so at any other time as they are at office.
"We have power cuts between 10 am to 11.30 am and again at 5 pm to 6.30 pm. Both the timings coincide with students and working professionals leaving the house and returning from work. It is tough to take water up to the fourth floor after I return from work,” said a resident of Habsiguda area.
