Power cuts cripple Hyderabad
Despite a marked reduction in the consumption of agricultural power, power cuts in Hyderabad city continue unabated.
While citizens have been subjected to frequent po-wer cuts in most areas, low voltage is causing damage to electrical appliances as well.
“Power cuts in our area without warning, particularly late in the night, have become a real problem.
Sleepless nights make it difficult to concentrate on work during the day,” lamented Anjali T., a city resident.
“Frequent disruptions in power supply throughout the day have caused damage to our refrigerator that stopped working because of numerous po-wer disruptions within an hour. We ended up spending a huge sum on repairing it,” complained Shekhar V., another resident.
Even though the two-hour scheduled power cut in the city has not been lifted, officials claim that power cuts are not being imposed in any part of Hyderabad, as there is no shortage of power currently.
“There is no question of power cuts, as the power position is comfortable. In fact, we have relaxed the scheduled cuts in the city in the last week, although the power cuts have not been lifted,” said Mr Satish Kumar, CGM Metro Zone.
The officials say that the interruptions are due to other reasons such as the felling of trees, etc.
However, citizens beg to differ.
They insist that the frequent power cuts and low voltage are a cause of serious concern.
