Rains to arrive in AP on time: Met

While the monsoon might reach Kerala a few days late, it is likely to arrive in Andhra Pradesh on time, according to meteorologists. The South-West monsoon, scheduled to hit the Kerala coast on June 1, is expected to arrive on June 5, Met officer R.V. Subba Rao said. It is now at southern Sri Lanka due to a circulation over the south Arabian Sea, Mr Rao said.

“But once the circulation starts moving, it will rapidly advance towards the western coast, so the entry into AP will not be delayed. It is expected to hit Rayalaseema on around June 8 and spread over Telangana region on June 10,” Mr Rao said, adding, “The monsoon is expected to cover entire AP by mid-June.”

Meanwhile, the Met department said that due to change in wind direction from North-West to West, temperatures in a few areas in the state, especially Rayalaseema, have come down from 43 or 44 degrees Celsius to about 40 degrees. But heat wave conditions prevailed on Sunday in certain parts of Telangana and coastal Andhra, with Kakinada and Bapatla recording 47 degrees. Hyderabad recorded a relatively lower temperature on Sunday — at 40 degrees, it was 2 or 3 degrees less than last week. This slight fall in temperature also indicates that monsoon will arrive soon, officials said.
