Rains leave 3 dead, paddy destroyed; more predicted
Three people died and one remained untraced on Tuesday as rains wreaked havoc across the state. Thousands of hectares of paddy were submerged and many low-lying areas in the cities were inundated. Met office sources said that a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal along Coastal Andhra and Telangana for the past three days had led to the rains. They added that isolated heavy rain fall would occur over Co-astal AP and Telangana over the next 48 hours.
The rains, however, are expected to improve the hydel power generation scenario in the state. In Rajahmundry, two persons died and one went missing. Pothamp-udi Nagaratnamma, 26, died when the roof of her house at Vallur collapsed and efforts are on to trace Gadhe Sriramachandra Murthy, 58, who was washed away in the Peda Vellamilli drain on Tue-sday. The body of Morla Santhi, 7, was recovered at Vatlur. She too had been washed away.
