Rains raise water level in AP dams

The Srisailam dam on Wednesday recorded the highest flood inflow during the current season. Srisai-lam has received 1,02,008 cusecs of water from both the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers. The present level of the Srisailam dam is 844.30 ft against the Full Reservoir Level of 885 ft. The Tungabhadra dam at Hospet in Karnataka registered a decline in inflows on Wednesday, registering 39,205 cusecs, and outflow into the river was restricted to 27,450 cusecs, besides supplies to canals under the dam. The Jurala project on the Krishna river has registered inflows of 73,000 cusecs and dam authorities have released almost an equal quantum to Srisailam after meeting power generation requirements.

Almatti recorded 45,730 cusecs inflow and 49,350 cusecs outflow on Wednesday, while the Narayapur dam released 64,586 cusecs to downstream AP. The flood flow at Prakasam barrage at Vijayawada was reduced to 53,868 cusecs, and after meeting the Krishna delta water requirements, 39,600 cusecs was released into the sea. Unless the flooding continues for at least a month, neither the Srisailam nor Nagarjunasagar dams will reach full capacity. Meanwhile, Sriramsagar in the Telangana region that provides both irrigation and drinking water to five districts, has for the first time recorded 53,564 cusecs in the current season, taking the dam level to 1,069 ft against FRL 1,091 ft.
