Ramnavami celebrated
Ramnavami or the birthday of Lord Ram was celebrated in different parts of the city on Sunday.
Heavy police presence and high security measures did not dampen the fervour of devotees who turned out in thousands at temples in the twin cities, and participated in processions. A few marriages were also conducted on the auspicious day in temples.
A massive procession was taken out at noon from Rani Avanti Bhai temple in Mangalhat, and it wound its way via Begum Bazaar, Gowliguda and Koti to Hanuman Vyayamshala in Sultan Bazaar. Several other processions were held near old city areas.
“Around 2,000 police personnel were deployed in the South Zone limits alone. The processions and celebrations passed off peacefully,” said the DCP South Zone, Mr Manish Kumar Sinha.
G. Shravan Kumar, one of the organisers of the Ramnavami utsav conducted by General Bazaar Asso-ciation, said, “This is the oldest puja in Secunder-abad, being celebrated for the last 55 years. More than 5,000 people turned up on the first day and offered prayers. The celebrations will be held for five days.”
Marriages are also held on this auspicious occasion and the bookings are done well in advance every year.
In fact, M.P. Gupta and his bride Bhargavi, who tied the knot on Ramnava-mi, had booked the date six months ago. “We wanted to start our conjugal life with the blessings of Lord Rama and hence selected this date,” he said.
