Rescued girl bags arts seat in JNTU
A girl from an economically weak background has made the city proud. Aruna Jyothi, a “rescued”, disadvantaged girl has bagged a seat in the Bachelor of Fine Arts course in the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. According to Ms Sumitra, chairman of Anukuram, rehabilitation home, during her childhood, Ms Jyothi witnessed the murder of her mother by her father. Terrified by the atmosphere of violence, the girl fled her home at a very early age and lived on the streets till she was picked up by an unknown family. They turned her into a domestic worker at the age of 8; she was later rescued from domestic servitude in the year 2002.
“All through school, Ms Jyothi was one of the brightest students. She got a first class in Class X and Intermediate. “And now she has got into one of the most esteemed universities after putting in a lot of effort. Ms Jyothi is an inspiration to all the girls from economically weaker sections of the society,” said Ms Sumitra.
