Rescued snakes raise false alarm in kundanbagh
Residents of Kundan-bagh raised a false alarm, making a complaint to the anti-poaching squad of the State Forest Department about a poacher’s den existing in their midst after they saw snakes being carried into a flat.
The flat, which was searched on Monday, turned out to be that of Varun’s, a techie who is a volunteer with Friends of Snakes Society.
“Residents saw Mr Varun carrying the rescued snakes home at night, and complained to forest officials, alleging that he was selling venom, which was not the case at all. As it was late in the night and difficult to shift the snake to our Sainikpuri shelter, he kept them at his flat. We have already advised him to shift the rescued snakes immediately to our shelter,” Avinash Viswanathan, the joint secretary of the Friends of Snakes Society, told this newspaper.
Wildlife Warden A.V. Joseph told Friends of Snakes Society not to take snakes into residential localities as a precaution.
