Robberies unabated
Burglaries at temples and houses in recent days have baffled the city police. They have been unable to crack even one of the more than 20 burglaries that have occur-red in the last 45 days.
Though the city police has formed special patrolling and investigation teams, they are no closer to nabbing the culprits.
Police commissioner Anurag Sharma said, “Up to a certain extent, the deployment of a large police force in concentrated areas must have caused the recent thefts. However, our special teams are on the job, and we have zeroed in on a few gangs. Soon they will be caught.”
The city police suspects that professional gangs are involved in the temple burglaries. “We have listed the main suspects in major burglaries. We are in the process of rounding them up,” Mr Sharma said. He added that earlier this month the police had foiled two attempted burglaries and night patrolling would be stepped up.
The police says that temple authorities have not responded to their request for additional security. “A majority of temples have no CCTV cameras and watchmen. It’s very difficult to provide one police constable to each temple,” a senior police officer of the Central Zone said.
