RTC buses mow down 5 on roads

Five people were mowed down by APSRTC buses at various points in the city on Friday.

Three people including a woman were killed as their car was rammed by an APSRTC bus at Pedda Shapur on Thursday midnight. Police said the accident took place when the car was taking an U turn. All the three were killed on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Sudhakar Reddy, 28, a resident of Moinabad, Dasu Reddy, 38, a resident of Shankarpally and Jamuna, 35, a resident of Shapur Thanda. Inspector P. Anjaiah said the speeding bus driver might not have noticed the car making an U turn.

In another incident, a woman was fatally hit by an RTC bus at Kukatpally while she was crossing the road along with her son. The son escaped miraculously.

Police said the deceased, V. Lakshmi, 48, a resident of Sangeet Nagar, was crossing the road with her son to hire an autorickshaw. The police suspects that due to the sudden rain on Friday morning the victim was carrying an umbrella, and this must have obstructed her view.

She was stepping down from the divider followed by her son when the bus hit her. The bus has not been identified. The son, Lalith Bhargav, is the only available eye witness. He is not able to give details as he is in a state of shock.

The complaint was filed by the woman's husband, Ravindra Kumar, an employee of a private company.

In the third incident, a lady software engineer was mowed down by an RTC bus at Mehdipatnam on Friday.

Kalpana Singh, 27, of Humayun Nagar was working in a software company at Banjara Hills. She was going to office on her two-wheeler, and died on the spot. The bus driver sped away. By-standers who witnessed the gruesome scene informed the police.

Police Inspector G. Biksham Reddy said that the police was able to locate the bus, but was still awaiting confirmation.

The deceased is a native of Lucknow. She was staying with her parents and they were informed about her death.
