RTE: Andhra Pradesh clueless, schools to move SC
The state government seems to have no idea how to implement the 25 per cent quota for poor students in all private unaided schools as mandated by the Right to Education Act (RTE) and as directed by the Supreme Court on Thursday.
Some schools have already initiated steps to file a review petition in the Supreme Court against the quota orders.
The managements of private schools are divi-ded over the quota issue, a crucial part of the RTE.
The managements of schools that follow the CBSE, ICSE, IB, and Cambridge IGCSE, and those which collect fees ranging from `1 lakh to `10 lakh even for nursery admission, are averse to the quota.
Meanwhile, schools affiliated to the state board which have a lower fee structure of between Rs 5,000 and `20,000, are keen to implement the quota provided the government is crystal clear about the amount it will reimburse schools for each admission made under the quota.
