Sangareddy riots: Politician, police blamed
Failure by the police to act in an unbiased manner led to the escalation of violence involving two communities four days ago in Sangareddy, a preliminary inquiry by the government established on Monday.
The inquiry said that the local police “grossly” failed in containing the violence which resulted in the escalation of tensions and led to the imposition of curfew.
The police allegedly acted in a biased manner at the behest of a local politician and let mobs belonging to a particular community to run riot, compounding the crisis, said a highly placed government source.
During the investigation so far, the police is said to have established the politician’s involvement in the violence but is yet to register a case against him.
Police arrested some persons including the supporters of the politician, suspected to be involved in the violence.
“We are following certain leads in the case and will identify the culprits soon. We are probing the case from all angles,” said a top police official.
However, no action has been taken so far against any of the officials for their alleged dereliction of duty.
