Saroornagar suicide victims identified

Mystery behind the death of three women and three girls from the Asifnagar area whose bodies were found floating in Saroornagar Lake was resolved on Thursday .

They have been identified as Arunavati, 26, Swarnavati, 24, Amaravati, 20, Arika, 6, Bhavani, 5, and Shravani 4, the three children being those of the eldest. A tag from a tailor shop on the clothes of one of the deceased led to their identity being traced to the Asifnagar area.

According to the police, all the six left home on Sunday last and were not heard of since. Police suspect they committed suicide, “An extreme step resorted to due to extreme poverty and harassment from their husbands. A search is on for the husbands of the women,” said inspector A.V.R. Narasimha Rao. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
