Security beefed up in city for formation day
Following a call by various pro-Telangana outfits to the people in the region not to celebrate the AP Formation Day, the city police has beefed up security at all important places, inc-luding the NTR Stadiu-m, where the main function would be held.
City police commissioner Anurag Sharma and other senior police officials, who reviewed the security arrangements on Wednesday, said that a foolproof security would be in place at the NTR Stadium to ensure a peaceful celebration.
The visitors, including journalists, would only be allowed inside with special passes issued by the government, officials said.
Central Zone DCP Tarun Joshi said “We are deploying 15 platoons of policemen at the NTR Stadium. Four entry gates would be opened at the stadium where thorough checking would be conducted and visitors will be only be allowed inside with special passes.”
Besides the main venue, security would be tightened at other important places like Assembly, Secretariat, Ministers’ Quarters, NTR Garden, Gun Pa-rk, Lumbini Park and other important places.
Traffic would be also restricted on all routes leading to the stadium.
Meanwhile, some OUJAC activists were taken into custody when they protested at the state Secretariat demanding boycott of celebrations.
Around 30 OUJAC activists had gathered at spot shouting pro-Telangana slogans and tried to barge into the Secretariat.
