Session: Cops ask for more stretched more
The state Assembly and Legislative Council Sessi-on which must be held before September 29, before the expiry of the six-month gap between Sessions, comes bang in between the Ganesh festivities and the prestigious international bio-diversity convention that the city is hosting.
Security and other arrangements will thus be severely strained.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy is expected to take a decision about holding the Session after consulting Assembly Spea-ker Nadendla Manohar.
Mr Manohar has cancelled his trip to Colombo for the annual Commonw-ealth Parliamentary Conf-erence, but Legislative Council chairman A. Cha-krapani has already left for Sri Lanka and is expected to return to Hyderabad on September 15.
It is not normal practice for the Governor to convene the Session when one of the presiding officers is out of country.
September 16 being Sunday and therefore a public holiday, State Liberation Day will be observed on September 17. September 18 is Ganesh Chaturthi.
Since the bio-diversity meet is scheduled for Octo-ber 1 to 19, the Session cannot be held while the conference is on as the law and order and security wings will be occupied with providing security for the international meet.
It is reliably learnt that the police administration has suggested to the government that since the police force will be stretched providing security to all the Ganesh pandals in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts from September 18 onwards, additional forces should be brought in for the Ganesh immersion on September 29. It is learnt that the police administration is of the view that it would be wise to postpone the Session to later.
The Session can start on September 19 and run for three or four days, so that security concerns are prioritised. A final decision is expected in the next few days.
