Shankar does not take names
Former minister P. Shankar Rao said in his witness statement that some senior officials and politicians were involved in the Emaar township scam, but did not name any.
“Emaar MGF had collected excess amounts, at the rate of Rs 25,000 from buyers of villa plots, which remained unaccounted.
I came to know from my sources that unaccounted money to the tune of Rs 450 crore was siphoned off by Emaar MGF and possibly sent to Dubai.
The 15 acres of land which consisted of lakes was also converted by Emaar MFG for its own use,” alleged Dr Shankar Rao.
The CBI, in its supplementary chargesheet, filed in a special court at Nampally, named him as witness number 291.
A letter, dated November 22, 2010, which he had written to the Chief Justice of the High Court, was taken up as a writ petition.
Former cricketer V. Chamundeswaranath, in his witness statement, said he brokered the sale of plots between businessman Nimmagadda Prasad and T. Ranga Rao of Stylish Holmes.
At first, the cricketer booked a plot in his name and then stepped in when Nimmagadda Prasad expressed his interest to purchase a villa plot in Boulder Hills Township, developed by Emaar properties.
He submitted a registration form and handed over the cheque issued by the former to EHTPL.
“I negotiated the rate with Ranga Rao on behalf of Nimmagadda Prasad -- the plot was offered to him at Rs 15,000 per square yard of which Rs 5,000 per square yard was paid through cheques and Rs 10,000 per square yard was paid through cash.
The money was handed over to Ranga Rao by one of his staffers,” Mr Chamundeswaranath said.
Meanwhile, film actors G. Krishna and Vijaya Nirmala, and minister Galla Aruna Kumari's family are facing the heat regarding the exemption of acquisition and possession of the land respectively. The land was acquired by the government.
