SHG beneficiary to host Suu Kyi in Anantapur
During her visit to Papasanipalli village in Anantapur on Saturday, Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi will inaugurate a centre of nutritious food, which to provide wholesome food to pregnant women and children. The centre will be run by women’s SHGs.
Four helipads have been prepared near Kothula Gutta, one km from the village. According to Anantapur collector Durga Das, the Burmese leader will walk to the village after she lands at the helipad. Police has beefed up security with additional forces in and around the village.
Along the way, she will interact with farm workers and farmers who have benefited from the NREGA and also interact with the 16 SHG groups at the Zilla Parishad High School, the collector said.
Muddamma, a 40-year-old woman who belongs to the Scheduled Castes, will host Ms Suu Kyi at her small pucca house in Papasanipalli.
She had suffered a lot before joining the SHG. “I made use of the loans effectively to strengthen the financial position of my family by rearing two cows and getting sufficient income,” she said. She is secure enough today to pay Rs 7,000 as fee for her son to study intermediate in a private college.
