Soil mafia attacks woman tahsildar
Members of a mafia involved in quarrying and transportation of red soil attacked a government tahsildar officer while she was on way to stop the illegal activity in Maharajapet village on Tuesday morning. The Shankerpally mandal revenue officer, Ms Boorgu Vasantha Kumari, said driver of a tractor carrying red soil tried to run over her. Ms Vasantha Kumari escaped unhurt, but her car was severely damaged, the police said.
According to Ms Vasantha Kumari, she received a complaint from praja darbar on Monday about illegal transportation of sand from Maharajapet village to Janwada, in Shankerpally Mandal of Ranga Reddy district.The MRO was on way in her car early on Tuesday Ms Vasantha Kumari said the driver was a middle-aged person. “The truck suddenly gathered speed (and tried to knock over my car) but my driver quickly took a turn,” the officer said. “We took down the vehicle’s registration number, though the miscreant sped off,” she added.
Shankerpally sub inspector G. Nagaraju said, “A case has been booked against tractor number AP28AM4558. We don’t have any other details of the driver who attacked the revenue officer.” Mr Nagaraju said a case was registered for criminal intimidation to deter a public servant from discharging her duty. “We are trying to trace the driver,” said the sub inspector.
