Son elopes with girl; father killed
An elderly couple were the victims of a severe knife assault over the love marriage of their son. The assailants were the girl’s relatives.
The couple, Nagila Mutthaiah, 65, and Bakkamma, 60, were attacked at around 12.30 a.m on Saturday night when they were sleeping in front of their house in Vinjamuru village, Chintapally mandal. Mutthaiah died while being treated at the Devarakonda Government hospital at about 4 a.m on Sunday morning. His wife Bakkamma, whose legs were broken, is being treated at the hospital.
According to Chintapally SI, their son Devulaiah, 22 had been in love with Geetha, 19, from the same village, for the last few years. As the girl’s parents were against the marriage, they eloped and got married about a month ago. They later approached the Nalgonda SP, fearing a threat to their lives. Following the SP’s directions, the Chintapally police summoned the parents of both the girl and the boy and counselled them. They were told that both their children were majors and had the right to marry according to their wishes.
The newly married couple have been staying in Hyderabad. The girl’s parents continued to bear a grudge against the boy and attacked his family. The police shifted the couple to Devarakonda Government hospital in critical condition. The Chintapally police registered a murder case against the attackers —Chinna Iddaiah, Pedda Iddaiah, Devulaiah and Ramulu — who are absconding. The cops have launched a manhunt.
