SPF cop attempts suicide at Secretariat
A constable attached to the Special Protection Force (SPF) attempted suicide by shooting himself with his Self-Loading Rifle near the Nalla Pochamma temple at the Secretariat in the early hours of Monday.
His colleagues rushed to the spot hearing the shots, and shifted him to the Apollo Hospital at Jubilee Hills. He is being treated at the ICU and doctors have declared him out of danger.
Saifabad S-I S. Vijay Kumar said the victim Ch. Rajesh, 29, hailed from Nellore and had attempted suicide due to family problems. Rajesh had married one Vidya shortly after joining service in 2010 against the wishes of his parents. Vidya had undergone surgery a few months ago.
According to police, before attempting suicide, Rajesh called his wife and another relative. He visited the Pochamma temple and put kumkum on his forehead after prayers at around 1 am on Sunday night. Rajesh fired two shots — one missed the target and hit the temple while the other pierced his chest on the left side and went out through his shoulder.
However, Rajesh told police that it was a case of misfire.
Saifabad police registered a case of attempt to suicide and under the Arms Act against the constable and investigating the case.
