Staff, state fight hits T-jobs panel
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy is facing a new headache: A section of Telangana employees and senior bureaucrats of the general administration department have been quarrelling right in the Secretariat. The showdown, which centres around the appointment of staff in the Justice B.S. Raikote Commission on implementation of 610 GO, is also delaying the functioning of the panel.
The trouble started with the GAD turning down the request of two Telangana employees’ leaders — M. Narender and Suresh Rao — to be accommodated in the commission by giving them “out of turn” promotions. “As per Rule 10 (i) of SP State and Subordinate Service Rules, promotions can be given to people with special qualifications,” says Mr Narender Rao.
As no officer of assistant secretary and section officer rank from Telangana was willing to work in the commission, “we can be promoted and posted the-re”, he said, adding that belonging to T-region itself was a qualification. The GAD refused promotions, maintaining that there are other eligible employees from the T-region to work in the commission. Adding fuel to the fire is the government’s decision to fill two posts with retired personnel and one with what the T-employees alleged was an “outsider”.
