State allots 85 acres to Wakf Board for dargah
Amidst controversies related to Wakf land, the state government has allotted 85 acres to the Wakf Board for the Baba Sharfuddin dargah at Pahadi Shareef. Revenue officials of Ranga Reddy district on Sunday handed over 35 acres of land in favour of the Wakf Board. Located in Hayathnagar mandal, it is part of a total 85 acres of government land which belonged to the Baba Sharfuddin dargah, with 50 acres having been given earlier.
The joint collector of Ranga Reddy district handed over the land to the minister for minorities welfare Mohammed Ahmadullah who appreciated the initiative and guidance of MIM Floor leader in the Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi, in safeguarding Wakf land. Mr Owaisi and other MLAs from his party were also present. The government had acquired more than 15,000 acres of land in and around Hyderabad from the Nizam for Rs 4 lakh, and according to the Wakf Board on survey number 99/1, about 2,000 acres belonged to the dargah. Cases regarding this land are pending in the courts.
But controversies arose in the land acquisition proceedings as the 85 acres, apportioned by the government for the dargah, was not actually there on the ground. When Mr Owaisi raised the issue, the then Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy had agreed to hand over 85 acres to the Wakf Board. In 2007, 50 acres of the promised land at Mamidipally village and the remaining 35 acres were pending. The government was citing unavailability of land in the dargah premises. Later, the Wakf Board agreed to receive the land at Koheda in Hayathnagar, which was awarded on Sunday.
