State promises all help to AP students
The state government said it has not received any communication about the raids on Herguan Univer-sity in Sunnyvale, US, either from Centre or emb-assies in the US and India.
“The issue has not come to our notice so far. There is no intimation either from affected students or their parents.
The state government will approach the Centre and respective embassies and will extend all help to our students,” said N.V. Ramana Reddy, special secretary of the AP NRI Cell in the Secretariat.
In January 2011, when US officials shut down Tri Valley University in Pleas-anton for massive immigration fraud, many AP students there faced threat of deportation, but were later allowed to choose another university in the US to continue studies.
Herguan University has been charged with submitting false documents, false transfer letters and false statements to federal regulators.
The university could lose its authorisation to enrol foreign students under the US Department of Homeland Security’s Student and Exchange Visitor Programme.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has taken the first step to revoke the university’s certification. The university has 30 days to contest the action.
Though the university remained closed on Friday, officials said it will function normally from Monday. Students can continue to attend classes as long as the school stays certified.
But if it closes, they must try to immediately enrol in an accredited school to maintain their legal status, or return home empty-handed.
