State’s dams await lots more rainfall
Though the state has seen moderate to heavy rains, especially in Telangana and north coastal Andhra, there are no significant flood inflows into major reservoirs in the state. There are no heavy rains reported in North Karnataka, which could cause major inflows into Almatti and Narayanapur in Karnataka. There was an inflow of 13,853 cusecs and 2,471 cusecs into the two reservoirs, which are of no use for AP.
“The Srisailam dam recorded zero inflow. There was no information about possible inflows either from Almatti or Narayanapur. Currently, there is a 75 per cent deficit in the inflows into the upstream Krishna river,” said M. Krishna Rao, chief engineer, Srisailam dam. However, the Tungabhadra dam has been receiving 2,232 cusecs of water and the level is 1,595.05 against the Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 1,633 feet in that reservoir. This is still much below the level on the same day last year.
