State says CBI can take up case
The state government on Monday put the CBI on the back foot before the High Court for not conducting a probe into the controversial land deal of IMG Academics Bharata despite getting consent for the same.
The state submitted an affidavit before the High Court stating that the government had given consent in December, 2006 under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, for investigating transactions between IMG Academics Bharata and the government of AP during the TD regime.
The state government argued that since the CBI was already investigating various other crimes in the state and had also filed chargesheets in certain matters, it did not have any resource constraints now, which had been its excuse earlier. A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice P.C. Ghose and Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar has asked the CBI’s counsel to respond in a week.
The Bench was dealing with two petitions, filed by advocate Mr T. Sriranga Rao, Kadapa MP Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s auditor Mr Vijaya Sai Reddy and veteran journalist Mr A.B.K. Prasad seeking a CBI probe into the land deal.
