State wins Kokapet land case
The AP High Court judgement on the Kokapet land on Wednesday came as a relief to the government, which had sold it to high profile companies for a considerable sum of money.
On an appeal by the government, the High Court declared that all the memos which were issued with regard to the Kokapet land were invalid. The court, however, ruled that the memo issued on May 21, 2005, which stated that the land belongs to the government, is “insuspectible to judicial scrutiny of the court under Article 226 of the Constitution.”
The heirs of Nawab Nusrat Jung Bahadur-1 had claimed title over the Kokapet land; the state government had declared 1,635 acres in Kokapet (Asadnagar) as government land as per the Sarf-e-Khas (merger) regulation.
