Stop suicides, take T-decision: Citizens
The Civil Society of Hyderabad, an organisation of eminent citizens, has appealed to the Centre and the state government to take an immediate decision on the burning Telangana issue to prevent further suicides by the youth. These eminent citizens, who met on Tuesday, said that the delay in reaching a decision on Telangana was the root cause of the suicides. They also appealed to the youth not to take the extreme step, asserting that suicide was not a solution to achieve their goal.
They felt that the Central government should take a decision which would be beneficial to the majority, since it was impossible to get unanimity on such an issue in a democracy. Former Chief Justice Laxman Rao expressed the view that there has been a degradation in moral values, people were losing confidence and this was one of the reasons for the spate of suicides. He noted that during the Freedom struggle, people fell to bullets but did not commit suicide. Former Supreme Court judge Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy, A. Gopal Kishan, Chukka Ramaiah, P. Ramulu, B. Somaraju, P. Venkateshwara Rao and others were present.
