Students ditch IT, pick core tech courses

The Electronics and Computer Engineering (ECE) stream hogged the limelight on Day-1 of the Eamcet engineering web-based counselling, that began on Friday. There were no takers for Information Techn-ology stream.

The general trend witnessed was that the students preferred core engineering streams over IT and other courses. However, the number of students who skipped counselling increased to 25,000.

Students from rank 1 to 40,000 exercised their options for preferred colleges and courses on Day-1. Of them, 15,406 students exercised their options. These students can exercise options on Saturday too.

After ECE, students preferred to opt for Mechanical, Computer Science, Civil Engineering stream. The IT stream, the most-preferred course during the IT boom, was at the bottom of the preference table this time.
