Stunned, Naidu to control damage
Stumped by the rout in the bypolls, Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday began a damage control exercise by deciding to hold meetings with representatives of the party from all the 18 Assembly constituencies besides the Nellore Lok Sabha seat to ascertain the cause for the debacle.
Mr Naidu will hold meetings with party representatives from two Assembly constituencies each every day from June 18 to 28. Besides ascertaining the reasons behind the debacle, the TD chief will take the inputs to prepare an action plan to ensure the return of TD to power in the 2014 elections.
Mr Naidu, earlier in the day, convened the party's politburo meeting. "We discussed the bypoll results and decided to interact with the grassroots-level and other party leaders. The YSR Congress utilised the sympathy factor, leading to its victory," said TD politburo member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu.
