Tahasildar threatened by sand mining gang

The tahasildar of Tandur, Mr Anantha Reddy, on Friday, filed a case against a sand mining gang that had threatened to kill him. The Tandur police registered a case against the accused, Mr Satyanarayana Reddy, for threatening and obstructing the official.

Mr Anantha Reddy said that after receiving information, he had gone to the sand dumps and had seized them. “Satynarayana Reddy and others threatened me saying: ‘I will catch you alone and then I will finish you. I lodged a complaint with the Tandur police and a case has been registered,” Mr Anantha Reddy said. “They are mining sand on the Kagna river bed near Tandur and Yalal. They take the sand and dump it near a construction site on tractors. Using an earth mover, they load the sand at night into a lorry and sell it in the city,” Mr Anantha Reddy said.
