Take up defence jobs: CM
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and Union minister of state for defence M.M. Pallam Raju laid the foundation stone for Bharat Dynamics Ltd's fifth unit of the highly sophisticated surface-to-air missile defence project at Ibrahimpatnam on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that land acquisition process for the nine missile manufacturing units is in an advanced stage in the State. Four defence organisations will be setting up nine units in AP at a cost of `7,000 crore.
Bharat Dynamics Ltd. and Bharat Electronics Ltd. are setting up three units each, the Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. two units and one unit will be set up by the Mishra Dhatu Nigam. The Chief Minister said that colleges should start courses on subjects that will enhance employment opportunities in the defence sector. “For various reasons, synchronisation of education and employment is not happening. Keeping in view the requirements of the future, education should be provided in a systematic and planned way,” Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said.
Pointing out that the Partnership Summit 2012 was a success and 234 companies have signed agreements with the state government with investment proposals worth Rs 6.50 lakh crore, the Chief Minister said that proposals worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore relate to government and public sector undertakings, while `1 lakh crore relate to investments in the form of foreign direct investment. “The youth of the state are being prepared as per your requirement, the skills required by your units are being provided to them, we are ready for partnership and to cooperate with you to provide security to the nation,” Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy told defence organisations.
In his speech, Mr Raju said that Bharat Dynamics is ready with proposals worth Rs 34,000 crore for the 12th and 13th five year plans which will result in the development of the area as well as provide employment to the people. “Jobs in defence establishments will be provided through nationwide competitive exams. Our engineering colleges should therefore provide training to students to compete in the exams,” he said.
The Union minister also said out that the production of missiles will begin once acceptancy tests are completed by the Army, Navy and Airforce at various levels. Cooperation has been sought from two countries for technology transfer.
