Tanker crushes 7-yr-old student
A seven-year-old girl was crushed to death by a water tanker when the scooter on which she was travelling was hit by a tanker at Pragathinagar on Saturday under KPHB Colony police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Y. Satwika, daughter of Y. Rajashekar, a resident of Vivekanandanagar in Kukatpally. KPHB Colony police station SI Srisailam Naik said that Satwika’s mother Sri Devi and her grandmother Padmavathi were on their way to The Creek Planet School, to drop her on her mother’s scooter bearing the registration number AP28 CF5154.
A speeding water tanker heading towards Bachupally from Pragathinagar, bearing the registration number AP28TA0981 hit the scooter from behind. All the three riders travelling on the scooter fell on the road and Satwika came under the wheels of the water tanker. She died on the spot as the truck’s wheels crushed her head.
“Satwika suffered major head injuries. Her brain spilled on the road,” Mr Naik said. Police shifted the body to the morgue and after postmortem handed it over to the family. Police arrested the water tanker driver Satyanarayana and booked cases under Section 304 A (Causing death by negligence) and Section 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC . Sri Devi and Padmavathi suffered minor injuries. Satwika was a Class I student. Sri Devi and Padmavathi are being treated at the Remedy Hospital Kukatpally. Satwika’s mother is a software engineer at IBM in Hitech city and her father Rajeshekar is also a software engineer at Chennai.
Relatives said that there was a parents’ meeting at the school on Saturday and Satwika was going to the school with her mother and grandmother.
