TD to abstain from elections for V-P
The Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party has decided to abstain from the Vice Presidential election to be held on August 7. The party, which has six Lok Sabha and five Rajya Sabha members, has decided to adopt the same strategy of abstaining from the polls as it did during the Presidential polls held last month. TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu, who presided over the meeting held on Sunday, conveyed that the party will stay away and neither support the UPA nor the NDA sponsored candidates in the elections as part of its policy of maintaining equidistance from both.
The TD Parliamentary Party has also decided to raise the issue of diversion of KG Basin Gas, allotted to AP, to Maharashtra's Dabhol Power Plant, ignoring the state's needs in the forthcoming Parliament session commencing from August 8. Apart from this, the party MPs will also raise the issue of power scarcity in the state, prevailing drought conditions and the raw deal in extending drought assistance to the state by the Centre.
