TD chief arrested for protest on fee sop cut

Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested near KBR Park here on Wednesday when he staged a sit-in dharna against state government decision to impose Rs 31,000 ceiling on reimbursement of fees to Backward Class and Economically Backward Class students of engineering and professional courses.

Mr Naidu was taken into custody along with senior party leaders like Mahender Reddy and others when they planned to gatecrash into the Secretariat where a Cabinet subcommittee was discussing the fee reimbursement issue. Mr Naidu announced a state-wide agitation by the party in support of students' demand from Thursday. “We will stand by the students and will not call off our agitation till government ensures complete reimbursement of fees,” he said.
