Tech colleges engineer a fee rebellion
Not a single college on Monday submitted its approval of the Rs 35,000 common fee for engineering colleges that was fixed by the state government. With this, the admission process is back to square one.
The government on Sunday had asked the colleges to submit individual affidavits to the Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC) stating that the common fee of Rs 35,000 for both merit and management quota seats was acceptable to them for a period of two years. It had claimed that 90 per cent of the managements had ag-reed to the common fee.
With the college managements staying away, officials of the higher education department have no clue as to what their next course of action should be. They are hopeful that the managements will submit the undertakings in the next couple of days.
Ravindra reddy criticises private college managements
Minister for health D.L. Ravindra Reddy advised the managements of private engineering colleges to change their attitude towards poor students. Speaking to reporters after inaugurating several developmental works at Pedda Chapadu on Monday, the minister said that there were quite a few doubts regarding the fee reimbursement and asserted that he was not against the scheme. Mr Ravindra Reddy also asserted that the government was committed to implementing the scheme for poor students according to their eligibility.
He came down heavily on the managements of private colleges, stating that they were charging exorbitant fees under the management quota. Stating that education had become a flourishing business, Mr Ravindra Reddy asked private colleges to encourage poor students by giving admissions to them. He criticised the people’s representatives for indulging in mudslinging and neglecting their problems.
