Tech convener quota seats witness sudden demand
There is a sudden rush for convener quota seats in private engineering colleges as hundreds of students who had already “bought” seats in the management quota are opting for the state-held counselling as they are no longer guaranteed a seat in the B category. Hundreds of students across the state have been approaching the Eamcet counselling authorities with requests to allow them to register by producing photocopies of relevant certificates as the originals were kept by the private college managements.
“We allowed registration after obtaining an undertaking from the parents that the original certificates would be produced once the allotments through the convener was finalised,” said admissions convener Mr Raghunath. Against an average of 11,500 registrations in the first few days, the registrations went up to 12,500 on Monday and Tuesday and sources said that the trend was likely to continue. The state is incorporating several user-friendly features including online payments of registration fees. Officials, meanwhile, have been busy holding repeated trial runs to avoid any glitches once the management quota portal goes online. It will be made available to colleges for uploading their respective data of seat availability latest by Thursday.
The AP State Council of Higher Education will issue detailed guidelines to the colleges on uploading data and a schedule will be released for students to apply online. Sources said that students should clearly specify the category under which they were seeking management quota admissions. The colleges will first exhaust the five per cent NRI quota. The authorities fixed a tentative schedule for applying online for management quota for about a week from September 12.
