Tech fee structure to be out on August 25
The government is set to announce the fee structure for engineering courses on August 25. The Admiss-ions and Fee Regulation Committee has submitted its proposals recommending fee ranging from Rs 35,000 to Rs 60,000 in three slabs, sources said. The AFRC has divided the colleges into A, B and C categories based on their previous performance, infrastructure and faculty.
Sources said the AFRC recommended Rs 35,000 for new colleges and those in rural areas. Colleges five years or older have been suggested a fee between Rs 35,000 and Rs 50,000. The fee in top colleges has been fixed at Rs 60,000. Meanwhile, Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy of the AP High Court disposed of a writ petition by student G. Pooja Reddy seeking a direction to the government to notify the fee structure.
Additional Advocate-General K.G. Krishna Murthy told the court that the government would issue an order on the fee structure shortly. Justice Reddy took exce-ption to this and asked how could the government violate its own affidavit, filed before the court, with regard to the counselling schedule. This was nothing but misuse of ministerial powers, the judge said. He asked why the GO can’t be issued by Friday, when the AFRC has submitted its proposals. Mr R.M. Dobriyal, special secretary, higher education, stated the AFRC proposal was being circulated within the government and the GOs will be issued on Saturday.
