Tech students may lose academic year
Engineering colleges in the state are staring at a “zero academic year”, thanks to the failure of the state government in taking a decision to begin the Eamcet engineering counselling for the current academic year.
Though the Supreme Court on Wednesday gave “clarity” about implementing common fees for convener and management quota seats, the government has now referred the issue to the Group of Ministers (GoM) comprising nine Cabinet ministers to submit a report on the financial implications of the SC’s orders. This fresh development will most probably result in a further delay in counselling.
Nearly 2.23 lakh students, who had been declared as qualified in the Eamcet engineering test this year, are waiting for admissions for the last three months. The government, which had delayed counselling till now on the pretext that it was waiting for “clarity” from the Supreme Court regarding adopting common fees, is not in a position to take a decision on the counselling schedule.
The government is now delaying the counselling citing the fee reimbursement scheme stating that it has to deliberate at length before taking a decision on the amount it will have to reimburse in case of a steep increase in fees following the SC orders.
