Techie arrested for stranding wife, kid
A software engineer, G. Venkateshwar Reddy, working in US, was arrested on Wednesday when he landed in the city. Police arrested Mr Venkateshwar Reddy based on a complaint filed by his wife Archana Reddy for cheating and harassment by her in-laws. She had complained that her husband had not got in touch with her for more than a year.
The couple had married in 2007 and had moved to New Jersey. In 2008, Mr Venkateshwar Reddy had asked his wife to return to India with their months-old baby, due to the on-going recession. Ms Reddy complained that after she returned, she had been tortured and harassed by her parents-in-law. “I was forced to work. My in-laws used to demand money from me and treat me badly,” she said. Ms Reddy said that her husband had returned for a month in between, but had vanished without informing her.
Later, she lodged a complaint on September 28, 2009, against her husband and his family. A case was registered under section 498a, 406, 420 of IPC and 3 and 4 of the Domestic Violence Act. Ms Reddy had by then moved out of her in-laws’ house and had started living with her parents. A look-out notice was issued against Mr Venkateshwar Reddy in 2009 and he was arrested by the airport police based on this when he landed.
