TG Venkatesh adds politicos to list
The outburst of minor irrigation minister T.G. Venkatesh against bureaucrats is snowballing into a major controversy with both the minister and the officials sticking to their guns, and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy advising restraint on all sides.
On Sunday, the AP Gazetted Officers’ Association joined the IAS Officers’ Association in condemning the minister for his remarks that bureaucrats should be shot if they did not perform.
The Gazetted Officers’ Association has threatened to launch an agitation if the Chief Minister fails to initiate action against his colleague.
In Rampachodavaram, the CM observed that in a democratic set-up, everybody has a boundary and they are supposed to work within those limits.
Meanwhile, Mr Venkatesh said he stood by his remark that non-performing bureaucrats should be shot dead and added that politicians too should get the same treatment.
He added there should be a Constitutional amen-dment to kill nonperformers and justified his comments by comparing his outburst with that of the first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who, the minister said, had given a similar call.
