Thieves breach high-security secretariat
An attempt was made to break into the office of principal secretary (Home), Mr P. Gautham Kumar, in A Block, in the high-security Secretariat on Friday night.
The Saifabad inspector of police, Mr. V. Umender, said, “Unidentified persons suspected to be Class IV employees or drivers removed the screw of the latch. No documents or valuables were stolen. We’ve booked a theft case.” There are no CCTV cameras covering the area and experts were unable to get any fingerprints or other leads. The chief security officer of the the Special Protection Force that guards the secretariat, Mr R. Madhava Rao, said, “They only took a brass fitting. There is no entry into the room. The lock is also intact.” What is baffling officials is that the thieves broke into the Secretar-iat room though there are around 173 guards posted on a shift basis.
