Thieves flee with Jain temple silver
A Jain temple was burgled at Aghapura, Habeebnagar early on Tuesday. Thieves decamped with silver ware weighing more than 20 kgs. Police said the burglars broke open the window of the temple and took away 7 idols, 12 votive idols, and 20 idol stands made of silver. The incident came to light when the priest entered the temple at 7.30 am and found most of the idols and idol stands missing and some idols shattered on the floor. The devotees soon informed the police and lodged a complaint.
According to the Habeebnagar sub-inspector, V. Venkateshwar Rao, the thieves jumped over the compound wall of the temple and removed the single window of the temple. The temple preservation committee said the incident took place after 1 am when there was no one in the temple. “We all left the temple at 1 am after the rituals. It was a little unsafe since the watchman was not coming for duty for the last one week,” the Jain temple preservation committee secretary Pavan Kumar Pandia said. Police said the temple premises was completely deserted since it was heavily raining. Cops have booked a case and started an investigation.
